"Leila, Latifa, Chimamanda" at the Bernard Fattal Auditorium
April 2025
Lina Abyad, a renowned stage director, recently hosted a feminist play at the Bernard Fattal Auditorium, celebrating Women's History Month. The play, "Leila, Latifa, Chimamanda," tells the stories of three feminist authors from different eras and countries: Leila Baalbaki (Lebanese), Latifa al-Zayyat (Egyptian), and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigerian).
The play was formulated at the request of the Arab Institute for Women of LAU, in partnership with UNDP, U.N. Women, and the support of the Canadian government. The production celebrated the literary and feminist heritage of these iconic figures, who fought similar battles across different cultures, decades, and geographies. The performance featured talented actresses Jennifer Yammine, Greta Aoun, and Lama al-Amine, who read and performed the writings. br/>
The event began with a warm welcome from our Group HR Director Zeina Khoury Assi and was followed by an engaging Q&A session where Dr. Lina Abyad and the actresses discussed their experiences and the messages they addressed through their work.
